Does Art Make You Age Slower? Science Says… Maybe Yes.

Did you ever wonder why some people seem to age like fine wine while others age like… a banana left in a hot car? Have you ever run into an old classmate and thought, “Wow, they look 20 years older than they should,” while others look cryogenically frozen from the 11th grade?
Well, according to new research, the secret might be simple: they’re artsy.
Yep. A new study from researchers at UCL suggests that doing creative things like visiting art galleries, singing, crafting, or painting is linked to better health outcomes and slower cognitive decline. In other words, your brain apparently loves a good paint party as much as you do.
Perhaps that's why people constantly assume I’m younger than I am. “Oh wow, you can’t be in your forties!” they say. And I’m like: “It’s the art”
Turns out all those hours spent teaching people how to paint Mt. Hood with a cheerful sunset may actually be preserving my youth.
Why Art Might Be the Fountain of Youth
According to the study, creative activities do a few magical things:
Boost your mood: Painting is basically therapy, but with prettier colors.
Reduce stress: Your brain can’t panic about emails when it’s busy mixing the perfect teal.
Improve cognitive health: Turns out remembering where you put your paintbrush counts as mental exercise.
Increase social connection: Nothing bonds people like collectively panicking over whether their tree looks like a tree.
So What Does This Mean for You?
If you’ve been looking for a reason to pick up a paintbrush, join a class, or wander around a museum pretending to understand abstract art, then congratulations. Science has officially given you permission.
And if anyone questions why you’re spending your Saturday night painting a whimsical Oregon landscape with a glass of wine in hand, just tell them:
“I’m investing in my long-term health.”
And If You Already Paint…
Well, then you’re basically immortal now. I don’t make the rules, the scientists do.

Hope to see you there!
